SEASON PREVIEW

Summer is (finally) just about here. And with summer comes FREE CONCERTS. Time to start thinking about what we have to look forward to!

Here is what we have in store for the summer of 2015:
  • Celebrate Brooklyn has now announced announced their full schedule, and it looks like another great summer in Brooklyn! The Dance Parties down at Brooklyn Bridge Park start on May 14th, and the season opens on June 3rd with Chaka Khan! A quick look shows highlights such as the Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience (June 6th), Lucinda Williams on June 25th, the Punch Brothers on July 9th, the New Pornographers on July 11th and Third World on August 7th.
  • Central Park Summerstage has already announced their busy schedule of music, dance, comedy and more, including the Felice Brothers on June 4th, the Blue Note Jazz Festival with Meshell Ndegeocello on June 6th, Angelique Kido on June 7th, the Soul Rebels on June 13th and Dr. John with Amy Helm on August 1st. The annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, is also included in the lineup, that covers the entire city! Don't miss George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic at Queensbridge Park on July 15th! (IMHO, the strongest lineup they have had in years!)
  • River to River will run from June 18th to 28th - here is the schedule. Only ten days this year - but they do pack a lot of art, music and performance art into that short time! The Arts at Brookfield with host the World Beats Festival May 7th to 9th, and Martha Redbone on June 10th.
  • Madison Square Park has announced their summer music schedule - runs June 24th to July 29th. Great music plus the Shake Shake - what could be a better way of enjoying a Wednesday evening in New York?
  • Shakespeare in the Park opens may 27th with the Tempest, followed by Cymbeline opening on July 23rd.
  • Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors -Will be great, as always! Highlights include Randy Newman on July 25th and Lyle Lovett and his Large Band on August 9th, and many great acts in between!
  • Hudson River Park will have music, movies and much more including the great Blues BBQ (this year on August 22nd).
  • BAM R & B at Metrotech in downtown Brooklyn will make Thursday lunchtimes amazing! Bobby Rush June 4th, King Sunny Ade July 2nd, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic on July 16th, Jon Cleary August 6th….
  • The Brooklyn Concerts was NOT at Coney Island last year due to construction, but we are waiting on word about the this year, as well as Martin Luther King, Jr. shows at Wingate Field.
  • The 4 Knots Music Festival at South Street Seaport - no news yet...
  • Coney Island's Mermaid Parade returns on June 20th. One of Brooklyn's biggest parties!
  • The Lowdown Hudson Blues Festival - July 15th & 16th, including The Word and The Wood Brothers.
  • Long Islanders won't be left out, with great music from Town of Hempstead (Los Lobos with fireworks on June 27th), Nassau County Oyster Bay, North Hempstead (Randy and the Rainbows ), Babylon (Southside Johnny, Mark Farner) and the Huntington Arts Council's shows at Heckscher Park - stay tuned!
  • And what else is still to come? The Lackawanna Music Festival and House of Vans (starting with the Almost Summer series, launching on May 9th) and just about everything else will be back this summer!
