Labor Day weekend is here, and summer is
drawing to an end. Labor Day is late
this year, but unfortunately most of the
summer concerts ended early.
So, how was your Free Concerts summer?
What were your highlights? I think
mine was the Soul Rebels show at Lincoln
Center Out of Doors - three great acts plus
Second Line! Come to our
Facebook page and join in the conversation - and see what others have to say!
Here's what's coming up:
The Pool Parties may be over for this year
(and perhaps forever?), but free music
continues in Williamsburg. Another
event is
Saturdays at
the Rock Yard - it even
has a Slip N' Slide!
Brazilian Day
in New York will take
place on Sunday, September 5th. One of
the largest street festivals in Manhattan,
the music will take place on two stages.
The main stage, located at 43rd St. and 6th
Ave, will host Brazilian country duo, Zeze
Di Camargo & Luciano, and the King
Afro-Brazilian World Music Carlinhos Brown.
The GOYA stage, on 46th St. and Madison
Ave., will host several DJ’s and other
surprises such as local bands, Brazilian
drums and samba dancers.
Of course, Labor Day in New York means the
annual
West
Indian-American Day Carnival Parade
on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
It is one of New York's most exciting and
colorful events, and a great climax to the
summer!
Speaking of Festivals,
SummerStage
in Central Park and the
New York Gypsy
Festival will host the
Black Sea Roma Festival on Saturday,
September 26th (suggested $10 donation).
Summer may be over, but free music
continues. Madison Square Park will
host their
Studio Music
series on Saturday afternoons from September
11th through October 9th. First up is Catie
Cutis with Mike and Ruthy on the 11th.
Guy Davis will be there on September 25th.
